Career decisions are rarely about a single moment they are shaped by exposure, guidance, and the quality of conversations along the way. This is the thinking behind Career Pathway 360, an initiative by Kimberly Ryan designed to help individuals navigate their careers with greater clarity and intention.

Recently, we brought this conversation to the Nigerian University of Technology and Management (NUTM), engaging MSc and MBA students in a focused career clinic aimed at addressing one critical question: How do you move from potential to positioning?

Why This Conversation Matters

At the postgraduate level, many students are no longer asking “What can I do?” They are asking “Where do I fit, and how do I grow?”

This stage of the career journey is a defining inflection point:

• Skills have been developed

• Ambition is clear

• But direction is often still evolving

What is missing is not the capabilities but clarity, structure, and strategic positioning.

That’s where intentional career conversations become essential.

Inside the Career Clinic

The session at NUTM was designed to go beyond theory. It focused on practical, real-world insights that students can apply immediately as they transition into the workforce or advance within it.

Key areas of focus included:

• Understanding career inflection points and how to navigate them

•Positioning for leadership roles early

• Aligning personal strengths with market opportunities

• Building a career roadmap that evolves with industry demands

Rather than a one-way session, the clinic was highly interactive driven by questions, shared experiences, and honest conversations about the realities of today’s job market.

Bridging the Gap Between Education and the Workplace

One of the recurring themes from the session was the gap between academic excellence and workplace readiness. While students are equipped with strong technical knowledge, translating that into real career outcomes requires:

• Market awareness

• Strategic thinking

• Intentional decision-making

Career Pathway 360 is built to address this gap - helping individuals connect what they’ve learned to where they are going.

Beyond the Classroom: Shaping Career Thinking

What stood out most during the session was the level of engagement. Students were not only listening - they were questioning, reflecting, and rethinking their approach to career growth. This is where real impact happens: Not just in sharing information, but in shifting how people think about their careers.

Our Ongoing Commitment

At Kimberly Ryan, we believe that career development should be proactive, not reactive.

Initiatives like Career Pathway 360 are part of a broader commitment to:

• Equip individuals with practical career insights

• Support organizations with better-prepared talent

• Drive meaningful conversations about the future of work

Because ultimately, the goal is simple:

To help people make better, more informed career decisions—earlier.

Looking Ahead

The future of work will continue to evolve, but one thing remains constant - the need for intentional career direction.

And it starts with the right conversations.
